We pulled off two firsts today! It was an unexpected triumph brought on by an agreement – you see, our great friends, Bill and Donna experience their anniversary only five days before Cynthia and I celebrate ours. In years past, we have patronized some of the high-end restaurants dotted throughout our metropolitan are to indulge ourselves in some extraordinary and noteworthy cuisine, however, this year we decided to do something different. After a round-robin discussion and bouncing ten or twelve ideas without ‘hitting our hot-button’, we all agreed that what we really wanted was to be in a more intimate setting, able to let our hair down and relax, but still have something out of our ordinary routine – we decided to grill out, but not the normal burgers and hot dogs or even steaks. We opted for barbecued ribs, scalloped potatoes and corn-on-the-cob. New challenge – I have never done ribs on the grill before! Imagine – all the grilling time I have logged, but never ribs! We bought the ribs and I decided to ‘Google’ for the best ribs ever – I (actually Cinnie) discovered amazingribs.com, and the rest is history. It will be hard to improve on a perfect do the first time, but I am pretty certain we will be trying again! I mentioned two ‘firsts’ and the second was equally successful. Inspired by a recent multi-hour hunt for the ideal ice cream cake without success, we discussed what it might take to pull one together ourselves – and we did it too!! For one-third the price of retail cakes, we made the much-sought combination of French Vanilla Cake with a French Vanilla Ice Cream center – Perfecto!!! We did the cake with no internet assistance whatsoever – out of our own ingenuity – who would have thought? Two successes in a single day – that may be another first!!!
