Collaboration took form today on Davis Island. As the ‘team’ for the November nuptials of our goddaughter converged on the chosen venue to hash out details of the occasion, a sort of cohesive bond began to develop among us and hypothetical broader views of possible, perhaps even probable plans were carved into a more lean definition of program, positions, and players. Even though there are a few months remaining before the date is upon us, the intense planning and preparations are not premature – unlike many weddings, this event has to come together in a window of only about four hours for everyone to be dressed and ready to ‘go live’ and there is no bathing and dressing facility on site. Who were we? The troupe included the minister and his wife, the wedding planner, the acquisitions manager, the music controller, the floral consultant, the electrician, the inside decorating committee, the outside decorating committee, the caterers, the bride, the groom, the parents of the groom, the godparents, wardrobe, the stage hands, the sound engineer, the grounds keepers, the lot attendants, the kitchen manager, the logistics personnel, the clean-up crew (gee, it sure feels like I am leaving someone out here) and, by the way, there were only 8 of us in attendance. I am confident that everything will come together on the 1st, when it must, but you can see for yourself why the partnerships formed today are vital. We all must have one another’s back in what must be a cooperative conclave!! Such is true in most meaningful accomplishments – gargantuan efforts and creativity go on behind the scenes, mostly unnoticed by the casual observer, but, vital to his comfort and the apparent flawless execution of all that is seen. This is most appropriate for this auspicious moment, for it bears all the normal perpetual earmark demands of donning multiple hats and laboring tirelessly without recognition in order to personify a truly functional marriage – I guess the event is right on track!
