166 – Monday, June 15, 2009 – An Anniversary Verse
- We were innocent at onset
- Sharing bleachers in our gym
- Trading dreams and aspirations
- Enchanted by each thought and whim - - - -
- I, a major, she, a streak
- Lovely, sweet as sugar cane
- I, tasteless as inferior steak
- Destined now for lover’s lane - - - -
- Strategy matured and mustered
- The day would come for us to wed
- Long months emotions flustered
- Ere the vows were finally said - - - -
- Now anniversary - forty years
- Wrapped in blur of by-gone days
- Very few squeezed out our tears
- But memories precious always - - - -
- I owe her all, for she did give
- Her best at every chance
- Showed me daily how to live
- True meanings of romance - - - -
- Can I repay, Lord, faithful love
- Return her what she’s worth
- Perhaps with Your love from above
- Brought from heav’n to earth - - - -
- Any less would cheat her soul
- And be too cheap from me
- For what she values most of all
- Must emanate from Thee - - - -
- So fill me, Lord, with endless love
- For her as You do best
- And let me help her world to move
- A plane above the rest - - - -
- Allow myself to step aside
- Endue me with Your power
- Empty me of all my pride
- More love on her to shower - - - -
- Perhaps she’ll sense my love is true
- ‘Tis love that cannot feign
- Unless it all can come from You
- Attempts will be in vain - - - -
- Let’s show her, Lord, what true love is
- Reveal her worth through me
- If merely through a simple kiss
- For universe to see - - - -
- And bring us to that serene place
- That’s only Yours to give
- Eternity spent face to face
- It’s where we long to live
